Conference Description: This conference brings together an interdisciplinary group of professionals working in the field of mental health with young people and parents and other stakeholders to share knowledge and experiences related to child and youth mental health. There are three themes woven through the conferences: Parental Mental Health, Children of Parents with Mental Illness and Young Carers.
This first ever gathering of this nature will provide a forum for focusing on the needs of young people and families as they struggle with issues related to mental health concerns across the generations. The overall goal of the concurrent conferences is help us develop a common language and understanding of the needs of young people and families. By bringing together people from diverse backgrounds we hope to enrich our collective knowledge of mental health strategies, best practices and the latest research in order to improve outcomes for young people and families. Maggie will be presenting workshops in Saskatoon at the McClure United Church 4025 Taylor St. E. & One Workshop for Parents in Moose Jaw on May 13 from 7-9pm at Jones Family Centre 262 Fairford St. E. Maggie Kline MS, LMFT, SEP has been a marriage, family, child therapist for almost 25 years and is a retired school psychologist. She uses Somatic Experiencing with individual and couple’s psychotherapy. She also integrates S.E. with art, dream work and play when working with children and teens. Maggie is a senior Somatic Experiencing instructor teaching internationally. She assisted Dr. Peter Levine in developing the Sounds True audio programs for healing childhood and sexual trauma. Maggie co-authored It Won't Hurt Forever--Guiding Your Child through Trauma (Mothering Magazine, Jan-Feb 2002), and Trauma through a Child's Eyes--Awakening the Ordinary Miracle of Healing (North Atlantic, 2007)—both with Dr. Peter Levine. Their latest book, Trauma Proofing Your Kids—A Parents’ Guide to Instilling Confidence, Joy and Resilience was released in March 2008.
TRAUMA HEALING WORKSHOP FOR PROFESSIONALS WORKING WITH CHILDREN & ADOLESCENTS One Day with: Maggie Kline, MS, LMFT, SEP Cost: $180.00 May 10, 2012 - 9:30 - 5:00 This 1-day workshop was designed for professionals who wish to enhance their skillfulnes in working with traumatized children and teens. It is appropriate for mental and physical health professionals, body-workers, medical personnel, educators and other allied professionals.
MORNING SESSION: will be an introduction to the fundamental principles of Somatic Experiencing (SE), a naturalistic approach to preventing and healing the symptoms of PTSD, chronic stress and other trauma-related ailments. It was originated by Peter A. Levine, PhD, an award-winning psychologist and medical biophysicist for his advancement to the evolution of the field of trauma-healing.
YOU WILL LEARN: The Neurobiological Underpinnings of Traumatic Activation How and Why the Body-Memory both Holds and Releases “The Story”. Participants will learn the basics of how to prevent and resolve traumatic symptoms when their youngster has experienced overwhelm. Parents will learn simple skills to eliminate or reduce distress and foster resilience based on the principles of Somatic Experiencing, a method of releasing trauma from the nervous system and sensory-motor memory developed by Dr. Peter Levine. The presentation will be a mixture of lecture, experiential activities, video and discussion. SOMATIC EXPERIENICING WORKSHOP FOR PROFESSIOINALS WORKING WITH CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS MAY 11 & 12, 2012 COST $360.00 9:30-5:00 A 2-day workshop for the SE community in which you will learn how to help children reorganize and rebalance the autonomic nervous system at the biological/survival level after being overwhelmed following a traumatic or stressful event(s). Maggie will teach participants how to use games, play activities and art integrated with the fundamentals and through the lens of Somatic Experiencing® to facilitate the release and completion of thwarted survival responses, to re-establish balance, to restore orienting and protective/defensive impulses and to elicit the capacity for healthy attachment.
